How To Fix Car Amplifier That Keeps Melting Fuses

If your car audio amplifier that is used to power subwoofers in your vehicle keeps melting fuses in the power wire fuse holder box immediately, its simply due to excessive heat building up. Interms of what causes a fuse to melt on a car amp is usually due to poor non secure connections from the power wire terminals that are inline with the actual fuse holder itself. This then causes the car amp fuse to melt because you are pushing heavy amps through a weak connection point causing heat to melt the actual plastic on the holder creating high resistance. What usually happens next is the car amp goes into protect mode right after this to stop any damage occuring any futher. Before you replace the fuse and fuse holder, you need to fix your car amplifier that keeps melting fuses now before this happens again and causes more problems. If this problem still persists on the same setup, then you may need to upgrade the actual wiring kit. Since the current kit that is installed into your car might have insufficient power and ground wire size, particularly if you are running a powerful high end expensive amp that is way beyond the kits expectations. For example, if you use a 500 watt cheap kit on a power hungry 1000 watt amp it is going to causes problems either way.

1) Get a screwdriver and remove the red power wire from each end of the fuse holder.

2) Get a file of some sort or even some sandpaper and scrub down the copper wires on each end. This will remove any copper oxidation that can cause problems with having a good electrical connection taking place.

3) Reconnect the wires back onto each end of the power wire fuse holder box. Ensure that you screw them tightly down, by pressing the screwdriver to prevent them from moving out of place.

4) Also check the black color ground wire. Check that is tightly connected to its grounding spot and that the area its mounted onto is pure clean bare metal. You can also run over it with sandpaper to ensure all the paint is removed and the connection is dirt free from any obstructions.
