How To Clean a Dusty & Dirty Car Amplifier

After a long time of operating a car audio amplifier, dust can build up internally on the components and externally, on the car amp's outer housing and block up the ventilation, as the side vents and cooling fan grill can get clogged up with dust. This can cause the car amplifier to have overheating problems, as the electrical components inside the amp heat up more quickly, as the heat created by them can't escape out of the air vents quickly, as dust is blocking that hot air to escape out of the amp and the cooling fan can't cool the amp down properly, due to dust blocking the air flow. Increasing the chances of the car amplifier to burn out and eventually stop working. So it is ideal to remove the dust and give it a quick clean inside and outside to increases its lifespan and look.

1) You will need to remove the top cover that is hiding all the electrical components inside the car amp, this is to expose the insides of the amp, so you can remove the dust that is built up inside on the components. On most car amplifiers, you will see some small screws, if you turn the amp upside, screws that hold the top cover in place. So get an screwdriver that has the correct head size and shape and using it, unscrew all the screws, once you have unscrewed them all, place them down in an location, where they can't get misplaced or lost, as you will be needing again.

2) Carefully remove the top cover, turn the car amp over and remove the cover and place it to one side. Now you can see the guts of the amp, you be seeing output transistors, resistors, large capacitors, diodes placed on one long circuit board. Now the easiest way i would recommend you to clean the components, is using an small powered household vacuum cleaner, as it will suck up the dust quickly.

3) So connect the vacuum cleaner to an available electrical outlet socket and switch it on. Hold the nozzle and using it, suck up all the dust you can see inside the amp. Once you have got rid of that dust, locate the air vents, usually they are placed on the side of an amp, near the terminals, again using the nozzle to suck up the dust, dust that is blocking them. If you car amplifier has an cooling fan, use can with compressed air and give the fan a blast, it will remove all the dirt and dust from the fan blades and finally give the area around the fan an hoover. Once you have finished hoovering, switch it off, to save electricity.

4) Replace the top cover you removed earlier on back onto the amp, flip the amp upside town and insert all of the screws into there holes and using you screwdriver screw the tight. Now that you have cleaned the insides, you have made life easier for the amp because know all the components can breath freely and dis-pass heat more easily, as they are no longer suffering.

5) You can now move on to clean the outer casing of the amp, to make it look brand new, they are made out of metal, so make sure you use an damp cloth or an car wash sponge, as lots of water can make the amp housing become rusty, if not dried properly afterwards. Using the cleaning item, start of by wiping the outer casing, gently cleaning it upwards and downwards, then move on to the sides of the amp and underneath the amp.Once you have completed the cleaning process, you can rub in some metal polish into the parts were the cover is metal, to bring out the shine, if you want.
