How To Fix Car Headunit That Wont Turn On No Power

If you have noticed that your new car headunit has stopped working and won't power on, it may be the simplest thing that has caused this audio realted problem to occur. What usually happens is a short takes place in the electrical system, which can be triggered when going over bumps in your car if the wires are not properly insulated. I can't say why your headunit has stopped working all of a sudden, but we can provide you the solutions for the repair to help you troubleshoot it.

1) Check the fuses. Sometimes an short can occur that can blow the fuse at any given time. If this happens it will break the circuit and it will fail to deliever any voltage resulting in your car stereo wont turn on. So check the fuse on the stereo itself and look for the second fuse in the cars fuse box holder as well, which is located under the hood or dashboard near the steering wheel.

2) Look for any loose connections on the wiring harness plug. Sometimes they are not securely fitted by the radio installer. Overtime, these can become undone due to heat and vibrations from daily use of your vehicle. If you want the best wiring possible, i would suggest you solder and heatshrink every wire for the best possible durability just to make 100% sure.

3) Cleaning the faceplate metal contacts. If the front faceplate can't communicate with the main board inside, the car stereo wont turn on at all. Sometimes you will see there is small dirt particles that can disturb electrical contact. So pop it off releasing it, using a cotton bud clean the gold metal contacts in the upwards and downwards directions on the pins directly.

4) Applying a factory reset. The operating system software which is programmed can sometimes get corrupted or locked up. By reseting it, you will restart the firmware fixing most problem associated with car CD player powering on problems. You will find it underneath the disc slot, then get a pointy object and push it in and hold it down for at least 10 seconds followed by letting go.
