How To Fix a Car CD Player That Skips When Cold or Over Bumps

Why Does My Car CD Player Skip?

A CD player is very sensitive to movement espeically when you go over bumps in the middle of any road. When you do the car suspension absorbs the impact and from this it gets transfered over to the CD Player. The CD player then skips over the bumps and your music playback gets interrupted. This CD skipping problem can become worser during cold weather conditions such as rain and snow. But before you perform any troubleshooting on your car stereo, you want to ensure that disc is clean and scratch free. This is because the drive will then have difficulty reading audio from the disc regardless of how many bumps you drive on.

The best possible way to fix a car CD player that is skipping when going over bumps is to clean the inside and add lubrication to the metal rod were the laser lens moves on. This will make it overall eaiser for the headunit to read information from the disc, making it less sensitive to movement from the vehicle when driving. I have repaired many and customers have said that there music is more stable now even in cold conditions.

1) Eject the disc from CD player and place it back into its jewel case.

2) Turn off the cars power by keying off the ignition and taking out the key.

3) Using din tools to remove the car stereo from the dashboard slot and unplug the wires at the back.

4) Remove all the screws holding the top silver panel on the headunit in place.

5) Lift it off. Now you will see the disc drive mechanism. Look for a metal rod that looks like a long spring. Apply some oil or lubrication grease to help make the movement more smooth and friction free.

6) Now you will need to clean the lens of the laser. This can be done by applying a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol solution and gently wiping down the lens until the liquid is gone.
