How To Hook Up Two Amps With One RCA Jack

hooking up two amps car audio

If you are wanting to hook up two amps together, but your headunit only has 1 RCA subwoofer output, you can use a RCA Y splitter cable. This is used in car audio to create two signals for each set of RCA plugs, giving you the ability to connect more than one car amp into your system. If you search 'Car Audio' RCA Splitter into Amazon or Ebay you will be able to purchase them for a couple of pounds. You need two of them to make a new connection for another amp.

y splitter cable for connecting two car amps

1) Unplug both the red and white RCA male plugs going into the car amp.

2) Plug the red male RCA lead into the female socket on the Y plug. Do the same for the remaining white male plug into the other Y plug.

3) So now you will have two separate connections for each RCA plug that is coming from the car radio. One batch of left connections and another batch of right.

4) All you need to do now is connect your car amp. Plug one pair of RCA plugs coming from the Y splitter cable into the first amplifiers inputs matching the colors. Connect the other set provided by the second Y splitter cable into the second inputs on the other amp.
