How To Fix Car Stereo With Buttons Stuck

If you use your car stereo on a daily basis, chances are that its come to a point when the buttons are stuck or jammed in. If this happens, you can't really use the different functions and sometimes they press themselves causing it to do random things. Even accidents can happen such as the coffee placed in a nearby cupholder can spill and get into it. Now in order to fix sticky radio buttons, you will need to clean them out internally. However, what you want to do is clean them without opening up the car stereo. Wiping them all externally will make no affect at all because them are sticking from behind not the front. But if you are using rubbing alcohol, it will find its ways around the gaps soak in and get rid of any dirt thats obstructing it from proper functionality. Make sure you don't use anything other than this solution because it is made especially for electronics as it evaporates off. If the below doesn't help restore it, then i would suggest to replace either the faceplate or the CD player itself. It could be telling you that its time for an upgrade.

1) Switch off the power going to the car stereo with stuck jammed buttons. This is because you don't want to create a short as that could result in a blown fuse as its happened to me before.

2) If its possible remove the front panel, as it will make it easier for you to work on for the cleaning process. There should be a release clip that you push down to pop it off at the bottom on the edge.

3) Soak the end of a cotton bud ensuring that its nice and wet.

4) Rub the soaked side across the sticky buttons, squeezing the end into the cracks so that the solution gets inside behind it.

5) Wait for around 5 minutes for the cleaning solution to dry off. While you are waiting keep pressing the jammed buttons so that it helps them unstick.

6) Dry the top plastic part using a lint free cloth to give it a final polish. Next reattach the panel back onto the CD Player and check if the buttons no longer stick. If they are fixed thats brilliant, if they have slightly improved then reapply the same process until you get better results.
