Should i install 6X9 Speakers Or a Subwoofer In My Car?

Most people that are into music are always into getting more bass. Now installing 6x9s speakers or a separate subwoofer are the options that are available. Now both of these speaker types are ideal for good bass production due to have a large surface cone area. The bigger the cone the more bass it can play with less effort, for example a tweeter has the smallest diameter and because of this its restricted to play anything else other than treble. Now to help you with your decision, i am going to clarify the advantages and disadvantages of both to point you in the right direction. Some people install both, but this will cancel out the 6x9 speakers due the subwoofer overpowering the bass. So its best to have one or the other, unless you want something cheap to fill the rear with sound.

Installing 6X9 speakers

Pros:

1) Dont need to be amplified can be ran from the rear channels on the stereo.

2) Easy to fit all you need to do is cut out the holes in the existing parcel shelf.

3) Not only do they provide bass, they also provide an enhancement in treble.

Cons:

1) If you have powerful 6x9s you might need a small 2 channel amp to get the most of them.

2) If they have heavy magnets, you may need to make a stealth shelf out of MDF.

3) Can't play really low deep bass frequencies such as 30 HZ and below.

Installing a Subwoofer

Pros:

1) Ability to play deeper bass than any pair of cheap or expensive car 6x9 speakers.

2) More impactful bass that you can not only hear but feel the vibrations making music more fun.

3) The bass will be much louder and have better clarity.

Cons:

1) You need a enclosure which means trunk space will be taken up.

2) You need an external amplifer which means ripping out carpets and trims.

3) More strain placed on the electrical system, you will need to upgrade the battery or add a power cap.
